Faced a choice between a $40 hot air station or a $120 one for my first real board repair

I was fixing a Nintendo Switch with a bad HDMI port, my first big job. The cheap station from Amazon couldn't hold a steady temp, but the more expensive Yihua 862D+ felt like a big jump. I went with the Yihua and the port swap went smooth, no lifted pads. Anyone else remember their first big tool upgrade and if it was worth it?

Oh man, that hits home. My first "real" soldering iron was a total junker from a flea market, it made a simple recap job feel like brain surgery. Saving up for a decent temperature controlled one was a total game changer, suddenly I wasn't fighting my tools anymore. It's crazy how the right gear turns a stressful mess into something you can actually do.

Exactly, @abby_singh, it stops being a fight and starts feeling like you're actually in control of the work.
