A librarian told me textbooks might be dying, now I'm second guessing everything

I was chatting with this older librarian at the downtown branch last week about how my kid uses a tablet for school, and she said, 'You know, kids learn better when they actually flip pages, the research is getting louder.' Then she showed me a study from 2023 about reading retention being 30% higher with print. I used to be all for digital resources, cheaper and easier to update, but now I'm torn. Has anyone else switched back to physical books after going digital, or is she just stuck in the past?

My neighbor just bought a brand new vinyl record player last month, and she never lived through the 80s. She says it's the same thing, the act of picking a record, dropping the needle, flipping it halfway through, it makes her actually listen instead of just having music on in the background. I think that librarian might be onto something bigger, because we're all circling back to physical stuff in different areas, not just books. Maybe our brains just need something real to grab onto when everything else is floating in a cloud. Do you find yourself reaching for paper maps or printed photos when you really need to focus?
