Hit 100 drywall anchors without a single pullout

Last weekend I patched and mounted shelves in my garage and used exactly 100 of those plastic anchors, zero failed on me. I finally learned to drill the pilot hole a hair smaller than the anchor and tap it flush with a hammer. Anyone else have a count where their prep method finally clicked?
