Just realized how much taping tools have changed after seeing my old boss's setup in his garage in Spokane

He still has his original 1970s taping knives and a metal mud pan, all worn smooth from use. Makes you wonder if the new lightweight stuff is really that much better, or if we just like shiny things.

So what's actually better about the new stuff?

Well, the new stuff is better at making my wallet feel lighter, that's for sure. In my experience, the upgrades are often tiny things most people won't notice. You get a slightly faster chip or a camera that's a bit better in low light. Your mileage may vary, but it rarely feels like a huge jump anymore. Take that with a grain of salt from someone who just bought last year's model to save money.
