DAE think the 30-minute warm-up on a 12-inch cutter suction is overkill?

My crew in Mobile swears by it, but I've run the same model for years and 15 minutes gets it done. What's your actual warm-up routine?

My old foreman in Tampa had a ritual with the 12-inch cutter. He'd run it slow for twenty minutes minimum, checking every hose clamp by hand. Said it was less about the engine and more about listening for any weird sounds before we were in deep water. I picked up the habit of tapping the pump housing with a wrench, listening for a solid ring. That extra time just built a feel for the machine's mood that day.

My version of that ritual is a five-minute panic check before a job, usually involving me kicking the tire of my old truck and hoping for the best. @the_dylan, your foreman had the right idea. That slow, careful listening is a skill. I once ignored a weird hum in a pressure washer, and it turned into a full hose blowout that soaked a client's patio set. Now I give everything that extra minute, even if it just means feeling the motor housing for weird shakes. It saves more trouble than it costs in time.
