I thought the old school 'pencil on vellum' drafters were just being stubborn
My boss at the firm, a guy who's been drafting since the 80s, always said you should learn to draw a clean circle freehand before you rely on the software's circle tool. I thought it was pointless, but after my CAD crashed during a client meeting last week, I had to sketch a quick floor plan change on a napkin. My shaky lines looked awful next to his neat sketch. Has anyone else found that a basic hand skill saved them in a pinch?

My first year out of school, my tablet died right before a site visit. I had to mark up a printed plan with a regular pen and my corrections were a total mess. The contractor looked confused. Now I keep a decent sketchbook and practice quick diagrams. It's not about being an artist, it's about making a clear mark when the tech fails.

Relate to that... my handwriting looks like a chicken walked through ink.
