Found a way to fix my squeaky floor without pulling up the boards

I had a bad squeak in my bedroom floor right by the door, and I was dreading having to cut into the ceiling below. I read online to try sprinkling powdered graphite into the crack and working it in with a putty knife, and after a week the noise is totally gone. Has anyone else used this method on old pine floors?

Powdered graphite" sounds like one of those old fixes that just works, doesn't it?

My grandpa swore by it for sticky locks. He kept a little tube in his junk drawer right next to the WD-40. That stuff got on everything, though, left smudges on all the door frames.
