Electrician's comment on my junction box setup got me thinking
Had an electrician over last Tuesday to look at some wiring in my garage, and he pointed at the junction boxes I'd put in for a new outlet run. He said, 'You mounted these like a pro, but you left zero slack for the next guy.' I didn't get it at first. He explained that if someone needs to redo a connection in 10 years, they're stuck cutting drywall because I trimmed the wires too tight to the box. I've been doing my own electrical for 5 years now, thought I had it down. But that one comment made me redo all three boxes that night, pulling extra cable in. It's a small thing, but it hit different because it's about the person after me, not just getting it done. Has anyone else had a pro point out something obvious that you just never considered?

Doesn't it just stick with you when someone points out something that small but obvious? I had a plumber tell me I was leaving my pipe straps too loose so they'd squeak later, and I'd been doing it that way for years without a thought. Now I check every single one I put in, cause it's about making life easier for whoever comes after us, not just getting the job done today.
