I stopped using store bought wood filler on my dining table rebuild
Spent 3 hours filling cracks in a 1920s oak table with that pink stuff from Home Depot and it all shrunk and cracked after a week. Switched to mixing my own filler out of sawdust and Titebond glue, costs maybe $2 total and actually stays put. Anyone else ditch the premade stuff for their own mix?

1920s oak, man, that stuff is like iron. 18 months ago I tried patching a hole in my own kitchen island with that same pink filler and it looked perfect for exactly 2 days before it sank. I switched to the sawdust and Titebond mix after that too, but I go heavy on the glue so it dries rock hard. Bonus is you can sand it down without it crumbling into dust.

Yo that trick with the heavy glue is key, I do the same thing with my Titebond and it sands down flat after a day.
