I finally quit using painters tape on trim after a guy at the Tacoma ReStore told me one thing
I've taped off every window and baseboard in my last two houses and always got bleed under the edges, so last month I tried the wet paper trick instead: you press damp newspaper into the corner, let it dry, and peel it off. The old guy volunteering at the Tacoma ReStore said he did it for 30 years because tape costs about $12 a roll now and paper is free, and honestly my lines came out cleaner on the first try. Has anyone else switched away from tape, and did you use paper or something else?

Did the paper trick ever fail you on a really hot day, like when it dries too fast and sticks for good? We ran into that on an exterior door frame in full sun, so now we save the wet paper for inside stuff and just use it on plain flat trim. It sounds weird but the paper kind of tells you when it's ready, since it peels clean only after it goes stiff.
