A friend's leaky window in Seattle showed me why caulk matters

I was helping my friend fix a drafty window in her old Capitol Hill apartment last month. She had just painted the trim but skipped sealing it, thinking paint was enough. A week later, the rain came in and ruined her new paint job. I learned that a $5 tube of caulk would have saved her hours of work and a lot of frustration. Has anyone else had a small step in a project turn out to be the most important one?

Honestly saw a whole wall ruined from skipping that step, it's wild how much a tiny bead of caulk matters.

But sometimes that caulk just traps moisture and makes things worse.
