PSA: That crack filler from the box store might be a waste of cash

Last Tuesday I filled a 12 foot crack in my driveway with the expensive rubberized stuff, and it looked perfect until the next morning when half of it had sunk into the ground. Then my neighbor swore by using plain old sand and sealer for the same job, saying his fix has held for over a year. So which way actually works, or is it all about the weather and the base underneath?

I've watched this play out in so many areas of life it's almost funny. People chase the fancy expensive product thinking it'll solve everything, but half the time the old school cheap fix works better because it respects how things actually behave. Sand and sealer probably wins because it moves with the ground instead of fighting it. The rubberized stuff is like putting a Band Aid on a broken bone it looks good for a minute but doesn't fix the real problem underneath. Weather and base prep are the real bosses here, always have been.
