Patching cracks with sand and cold patch worked for 2 winters but one spot keeps sinking
Filled a 3 foot crack at the edge of my garage apron in Fort Wayne back in 2022 using sand topped with cold patch and it held fine until this spring when that same corner started dipping about a half inch again, so now I'm wondering if the real problem is water running off the downspout and I should just redirect that first, has anyone else had a patch keep sinking in the same spot?
That "same corner started dipping again" part is exactly what happened at my mom's place, except hers was a crack by the driveway where the gutter dumped out. My uncle came over with a level and sure enough the ground under the patch was washed out, not packed down right. So yeah I'd look hard at that downspout first, water is sneaky and will keep eating the same spot over and over. Redirecting it is cheap and easy compared to redoing the patch every couple years.
