Old bath towel as a pour-over stand? It actually levels my drips

Used to hold my V60 over a mug with one hand while pouring with the other, always ended up lopsided and channeling. Last week I folded a bath towel into a ring and set the dripper in it, now it sits dead flat every time. Cost me nothing since it was already in the closet, beats the $15 leveling stand I almost bought on Amazon. Does anyone else use random kitchen stuff as stabilizers, or am I the only one with a towel-based setup?
