Rant: That one Tuesday my brake job turned into a nightmare
Last Tuesday, I was just trying to swap the rear pads on my old pickup to save a hundred bucks. I got the caliper off fine, but the piston wouldn't compress back in, no matter how hard I cranked on my C-clamp. Turns out, I had the parking brake still slightly engaged, which on my truck locks that piston. I fought it for two hours before I figured it out. Had to fully release the brake cable under the truck to get it to move. Who even thinks to check that first? Has anyone else run into this weird parking brake trick on their rear disc brakes?

Man, that exact thing got me a few years back on my old Ranger. Always assumed rear discs were just like the front until I wasted a whole afternoon. Now it's the first thing I check, parking brake fully off and sometimes even pull the handle a click or two to be sure. It's one of those dumb little details the manual doesn't really shout about. You feel like a genius once you figure it out, but man is it frustrating getting there.

Oh man, @luna550, you're totally right... I used to think the same way, that all disc brakes were the same. That little parking brake trick is a game changer once you learn it the hard way.
