I finally understood why my oil filter was always a pain to remove

For years I cranked it on way too tight, thinking it needed to be super secure. I read the manual for my 2015 Civic and it literally says to hand-tighten only, then give it a quarter turn with the wrench. Has anyone else made this mistake with their own car?

My mechanic friend says over-tightening can crush the filter's gasket and cause leaks.

Ever had that happen, @emma_perry? Just hand-tighten it and give it a little extra turn, no tools needed.
