Went to a local bike co-op and they wouldn't let me use their Park Tool truing stand
I get that they've got rules, but I've been truing wheels at home for 2 years with a zip tie and a screwdriver. Their volunteer kept pushing me to use the budget stand they built from scrap wood and honestly my homemade setup worked better. Has anyone else had a co-op act like you need fancy tools to do simple repairs?

Wait hold on they have a budget stand built from SCRAP WOOD but wouldn't let you use the Park Tool? That's crazy. Like they're gatekeeping with a literal pile of sticks.

That scrap wood stand situation really bothers me. So was that wood stand just for show or did someone actually use it to work on their bike? I'm wondering if maybe there's some weird rule about only using tools that belong to the co-op or something like that. But it still doesn't make sense to have a functional stand made of literal trash and then not let people touch the nicer Park Tool one. I'd be asking whoever runs the place what the actual deal is with that.
