Pumped my tires to 80 psi on a dare, blew a tube 3 blocks from home
Last Saturday I was messing around in the garage and decided to see how far I could push my 700x25c tires, so I hit them with 80 psi off my floor pump. Rode fine for about 3 blocks, then the rear tube let go with a bang loud enough that a lady walking her dog yelled at me. When I pulled the tire off, the bead was chewed up bad and the tube had a split about 2 inches long, not a pinch, a real blowout. Cost me $9 for a new tube plus a new tire because the sidewall got torn where it bulged. Turns out my rims max out at 65 psi and I never once bothered to read that stamp by the valve hole. Anyone else blow up a tube doing something dumb like this, or am I the only one?
Ha, been there! I once pumped my mountain bike tires up to like 70 psi because they "felt squishy" and popped the front tube in my driveway before I even got going (my neighbors definitely heard it). Lesson learned the hard way, always check that little stamp on the rim first.
