Fixed a creaky crank after 8 months of ignoring it, turns out it was just loose bolts

Every ride in Portland had that annoying click under load so I finally pulled the cranks tonight and both bolts were barely finger tight, so has anyone else put off a 5 minute fix for way too long just because it might mean taking the chain off?

Finger tight on crank bolts after 8 months? That sounds scary but honestly a lot of bikes run fine with loose stuff for a long time. I've seen people ride with way worse, like a stem that was about to slip, and they never noticed. The click was probably annoying but the real damage happens if the crank arm starts wobbling and eats the spindle splines, then you're buying parts. So yeah, good you caught it, but 8 months is pretty normal for how lazy people get with basic checks.
