Finally got my old Shimano shifter unstuck with a drop of isopropyl alcohol after three days of fiddling.

I was ready to buy a new set, but a tiny bit on the stuck pawl freed it right up, saving me about $60, has anyone else had luck with this fix on 9-speed shifters?

That "drop of isopropyl alcohol" trick is a lifesaver. I had a 9-speed shifter that wouldn't click back, and a tiny bit of Tri-Flow with the little straw got into the same pawl area. It's been working smooth for months now. Sometimes the old grease just gets gummy and needs to be broken up.

Saw a bike mechanic blog that said isopropyl works because it dissolves the gunk without leaving residue. The Tri-Flow trick probably adds just enough lube after the alcohol dries. Makes sense why both methods fix sticky shifters.
