Vent: My internet bill in Lisbon went from 45 euros to 85 euros in a year

I moved to Lisbon last spring and got a decent fiber plan for 45 euros a month. It was fine for video calls and basic work. I just got my renewal notice and they're bumping it to 85 euros for the exact same speed. The only change was adding a 'loyalty fee' and some new local taxes. I mean, that's almost double for no upgrade. Has anyone else in Portugal dealt with this kind of price hike? I'm thinking of switching providers but I'm worried about setup delays messing with my work week.

Yeah, that's rough but honestly not too surprising here. My bill in Porto did the same thing last year, jumped from 50 to 75 euros. I called and complained and they gave me a 12-month promo to bring it back down. Threatening to leave is sometimes the only language they understand.

Actually the 85 euros might be fair now. Lisbon's infrastructure costs have gone way up with all the new people moving in. My cousin works for a utility company and they're dealing with insane price hikes for maintenance and energy to run the networks. That loyalty fee probably just covers the real cost of keeping your line active after the cheap intro rate ends. Companies can't just eat those costs forever.
