That coworking space owner told me to buy a local SIM card and I almost got scammed
Guy running a spot in Medellin kept pushing this one vendor for SIM cards, said it was the only reliable option. Paid $30 for a plan that barely worked outside his wifi range. Found out later he gets a cut from every tourist he sends there.

Classic "referral fee" special. At least you got a free lesson in how coworking spaces really work down there.

Wait, so they actually took a cut of your referral fee on top of their standard charge? That's wild. I've heard stories about coworking spaces nickel and diming people, but that's a new one on me. Like, they could at least be upfront about it instead of hitting you with the extra fee when you think you're doing them a favor bringing in new members. I'd be looking over the fine print next time for sure. Your mileage may vary, but that feels pretty shady even for this industry.
