Just finished wiring my home office and realized how vulnerable my IoT devices are
I was so focused on getting all my smart lights and plugs connected that I forgot to change the default passwords. Now I'm going through each device to set strong, unique codes. It's a pain, but hearing about neighbors getting hacked scared me straight. Honestly, if you're adding tech during a reno, security should be your first step, not an afterthought.

You're right to change those default passwords, but that's just the START. Lots of IoT gadgets have other weak spots like old software or factory settings that are easy to guess. Putting all those smart things on a separate guest network really helps if one gets hacked. It's extra work, but skipping that leaves you open even with strong passwords. My cousin's smart plug got weird commands from strangers because he never updated it. True security needs layers, not just a single good lock.

Router admin passwords are another common weak point to fix.
