Got phished at a coffee shop in Austin, now I use a password manager

I was grabbing a latte at this place on South Congress and hopped on their free wifi to check email. Within 20 minutes someone had my login for an old forum account, and they tried to reset my bank password with it. Has anyone else had a close call from public wifi, or do you all just stick to mobile data when you're out?

Wow, that's brutal! Public wifi is basically a digital buffet for hackers and you were the free appetizer. I once logged into my bank on a hotel wifi and got a lovely email from "customer service" asking me to verify my card number. Hilarious joke, right? I almost fell for it until I noticed the sender was something like "[email protected]." Now I treat coffee shop wifi like a stranger offering me candy. Mobile data might cost me an extra $10 a month, but that's a lot cheaper than explaining to my bank why someone bought 40 pounds of espresso beans in my name!
