Shoutout to the 'choose your own adventure' style prompt that saved my story

I was stuck on a fantasy scene and had to pick between my hero finding a magic sword or a talking map in a cave. I went with the map, which forced me to invent a whole hidden city, 'Aethelgard', and the plot got way more interesting. Anyone have a good prompt that forced a tough, but rewarding, choice like that?

Yeah that "tough but rewarding" choice is the best feeling. I keep a list of those on my phone for when I'm stuck. Jake_miller's save the village or library one is solid, it forces you to think about what your character really values. My go-to is "your character finds a letter that proves their friend is lying, but reading it will destroy the only copy." Makes you pick between truth and the relationship.

Try a "save the village or the library" prompt next.
