Vent: I used to set up my own outrigger pads on every job, now the younger guys just trust the ground without checking

After a sinkhole opened up under a crane in a job I was on outside Houston last summer, I started making everyone probe the dirt with a steel rod before we set anything, and the pushback I get from the crew is starting to wear me down have any of you had to force a safety check that nobody else thinks is necessary?

Wait, a sinkhole? Like the ground just opened up under a crane? That's insane. I wouldn't trust that crew's judgment for a second if they're pushing back on probing after something like that. You'd think a near miss like that would make everyone a believer, not get you attitude.

That 80% of construction collapses happen during setup and teardown, @abby698. Tbh, I've seen crews skip basic checks because they think it slows them down, but you're right to keep pushing back-respect is earned when you prove you're the one watching their backs.
