Overheard a new guy call a load chart 'just a suggestion'
I was grabbing coffee at a site in Tacoma last week and heard a young operator say that to his spotter. He was joking, but it made me think. When I started, my old boss made me memorize our 50-tonner's chart before I even touched the levers. Now I see guys relying on the computer screen first, which is fine, but that basic paper chart knowledge feels like it's fading. Anyone else notice this shift in how new folks learn the basics?

Man, that story gives me a chill. What happens when the screen goes blank or the sensors get it wrong? I had to learn on old iron without all the bells and whistles, and that paper chart was your bible. It feels like we're losing that gut feel for the machine, you know?

Tell the new guys to just reboot it. Works every time, until the day it really doesn't.
