Took me 3 years to figure out I was over-mixing my hair color

Last Tuesday I had this random bright orange patch on a client's roots and couldn't figure out why. My coworker Jen watched me mix and said 'dude you're whipping that like cake batter.' Turns out I was aerating the color too much so it oxidized faster. She showed me to just fold it gently with a spatula. Now my colors come out way more even. Anyone else get stuck in a bad habit and had a coworker call you out?

My coworker caught me aggressively shaking my developer bottle like I was trying to win a bar fight with it. Turns out all that shaking was just making my color foam up like a cappuccino and then it would fade super fast. Now I just swirl it gently and my sanity and my roots both look way better.
