Debate: Should cosmetologists charge for consultations or not?

I visited a salon in Austin last week where they charged $25 for a 15 minute color consultation before booking. Another stylist I know says it's a waste and free consults build trust. Which side do you fall on for your own business?

Girl nah, I gotta push back on this one lol. Free consults are where it's at because you're basically giving them a taste of your expertise without any risk, and that's how you lock in the serious clients. @jana_hill27 I'd argue the tire kickers actually weed themselves out when they don't show up or ghost you, so you're not wasting time on them anyway. Charging $25 for a quick chat feels like you're nickel and diming people who just want to know if you can even handle their hair type or color history. Plus, I've seen stylists turn a 15 minute free consult into a $300 booking just by being chill and showing off their knowledge, no pressure. It's like a first date, you don't charge for coffee upfront.

Honestly, does a free consult really bring in loyal clients or just tire kickers?
