My buddy's 2 a.m. basement theory about satellites had me shook for a week
Last Friday my old roommate Dave, who's never been into this stuff, got drunk and started talking about how the night sky looks different now. He said when he was a kid in Chicago, he saw way more stars than his kids see today, and he thinks it's not just light pollution. He pulled up a 2012 star map on his phone and compared it to a photo from last month, same spot, same time, and pointed out three constellations that just aren't visible anymore. That hit different because Dave's the last person to buy a wild idea, he still thinks the moon landing was real and all that. Anyone else have a friend with zero interest in conspiracies suddenly drop something that makes you question your own baseline?

Diving into that thought, your buddy might be onto something bigger than just light pollution. I remember reading about how satellites and space junk are literally reflecting more sunlight back at us now, which can wash out dimmer stars in photos and even to the naked eye. If he compared maps from 2012, that was right before the big satellite mega-constellations started launching, so the sky has changed a ton since then. Honestly, it made me check my own old photos from college camping trips and yeah, the stars look way duller now even in the same remote spot.
