This old guy in Boise watched me finish a driveway for an hour, then said one thing.

He came over, pointed at a spot where I'd just used my magnesium trowel, and said 'You're pushing it, not pulling it, that's why it's got that ripple.' I tried his way on the next section and the finish was way smoother, like glass. Anyone else get a random tip from a stranger that actually worked?

Seriously? It's just a driveway... not a heart surgery. The old guy probably had too much time on his hands. I get that the tip helped, but people act like these little tricks are life-changing. It's concrete, it's gonna crack anyway.

You know what, claire999, you're right that it's just concrete. But isn't the whole point finding a cheap way to make it last a few more years before you have to spend thousands to replace it? That old guy's tip might save someone a huge headache and a bigger bill down the road.
