Had to choose between a power trowel and a hand float for a weird little patio job in Sedona

The client wanted this crazy, wavy edge that the power machine just couldn't get close to, so I went with the hand float and it took me three hours longer than I quoted. My back is killing me, but the pattern actually looks pretty cool now that it's set. Ever pick the 'right' tool for the detail and then totally regret the extra work?

That wavy edge detail in Sedona is exactly why I keep a magnesium hand float in every truck. The power trowel is for the big, flat middle, but it always leaves you with a few hours of handwork on the edges and details. I've learned to quote those jobs with a "detail labor" line item, just for the hand-finishing time. It saves the argument later and pays for the ibuprofen. The good work is what they remember, not the extra half day on the invoice.

Ever try to hand-finish in that dry heat? My knuckles were cracking just looking at the picture.
