Realized I never checked power supply voltage before swapping boards, happened at a client's place in Mesa
Been doing board swaps on Dell Optiplex units for almost 4 years and always just matched the wattage on the label. Had a client in Mesa last Tuesday with a 7050 that kept shutting down under load, swapped the PSU with a spare 290W I had in the van and it did the same thing an hour later. Turns out the wall outlet in that back office was putting out 103V instead of 120 and the PSU was fine the whole time. Now I carry a kill-a-watt in my bag, but I'm curious what else I'm skipping on the basic stuff, what's your go to pre-check that has saved you from a wasted call?
