Warning: that free neighborhood app is secretly a gossip mill

I joined my local Nextdoor-style group last Tuesday to ask about a clogged storm drain, and within 3 hours someone had posted a blurry photo of my van with a caption about 'suspicious plumbing activity'. Turns out the 'helpful neighbor' who replied to my post was the same guy who runs the block watch, and he'd been screenshotting everything. I took away that these apps are fine for lost cats or recommending a roofer, but never post your full name, address, or any problem that could be misread. Now I just call the city's public works line directly, which took me 4 minutes instead of a 40-comment thread of guesses. Has anyone else had their routine question turn into a neighborhood drama session on these platforms?

Honestly I get the frustration but Ive had the opposite luck with mine. People only post when something bothers them, so the quiet normal stuff never shows up. Its a loud minority thing, not the whole app.
