Shoutout to the 11 people who showed up to my first library gardening talk
I put up a flyer at the East Liberty library back in March about a free talk on growing tomatoes in buckets on a balcony, and honestly I figured maybe 3 people would show, mostly folks who thought it was bingo night. Eleven showed up. Eleven! One guy brought a folding chair from home, a lady named Ruth took notes in a spiral notebook like it was a college class, and a teenager asked me how much dirt costs, which I did not have a good answer for. I ran out of the 15 printed handouts I made at the copy shop for 40 cents each, so people were passing them around like contraband. The weird part is I learned more from them in that hour than from all the videos I watched to prep, especially when Ruth told me her mom used to start seeds in old egg cartons on the radiator. Now the library wants me to do another one in June. Do any of you run small neighborhood workshops, and how do you get the word out beyond a paper flyer?
