My old dive partner in Tampa swore by using a little bit of dish soap in your spit for mask defog, and honestly, he was onto something.

Honestly that trick is a classic for a reason, it does work in a pinch. Tbh though I've had way better luck with the actual defog gel you can buy at any dive shop. The soap can leave a weird film that messes with your vision if you don't rinse it perfectly. Plus it just feels kind of gross compared to a product made for the job.

Saw my buddy try the soap trick on a snorkel trip last year. He spit in his mask, rubbed toothpaste around, the whole thing. Ended up with this milky haze halfway through the swim. Had to surface and just hold the mask in the water to clear it. Totally killed the vibe when a turtle swam right past us and he missed it.
