Just hit 500 hours on my new Kirby helmet and it feels different than I thought it would.
I always figured the big milestones were about big jobs or depth, not just time on the gear. But hitting that 500 hour mark on this helmet, mostly doing inland bridge inspections around the Ohio River, made me notice all the little wear patterns and how the seal feels now. It's not broken in, it's just... mine. Has anyone else had a piece of kit hit a number that made you look at it differently?

Wait, you're doing bridge inspections in a Kirby helmet? I thought those were almost only for commercial diving on big jobs. How does that even work with the comms and everything for surface supplied air up on a bridge?

My buddy's old drysuit hit 1000 hours and he said it stopped being equipment and became a partner. The zipper pull was worn smooth and the knees were permanently creased from kneeling. He retired it to his garage wall like a mounted fish.
