Overheard two guys at a con arguing about variant covers...
I was at the Baltimore Comic Con last Saturday grabbing a table near the back. This one collector was saying how variant covers are ruining the hobby because they just pump out 20 versions of the same book to cash in. The other guy shot back that variants let newer artists get their work seen and that's how he discovered a cool indie penciler. It got me thinking about where I stand on the whole thing. Anyone here change their mind about variants after collecting for a while?

Variants are a total cash grab, man. They're flooding the market with FOMO tactics and driving up prices on books that aren't worth half the cover cost. It's turning collecting into a gambling thing instead of just enjoying the stories.
