Dropped $60 on a brass tamper that was too small for my basket
So last month I finally bought a brass tamper after reading how weight and fit make a difference. I measured my basket with a ruler at home, got 58mm, and ordered one that cost me $60 with shipping. When it showed up it rattled around in the basket with a good 1mm of play, so grounds kept sneaking up the sides no matter how careful I was. Turns out my basket is actually 58.5mm and a ruler was never going to catch that. I used it for two weeks thinking I just needed more practice before I finally checked with calipers at a friend's shop. Save the money and measure with actual calipers first, or buy from a place with free returns. Anyone else get burned by a size that was just close enough to seem fine?
