I was cleaning my vise jaws wrong for months until a guy at the Tacoma shop pointed it out
He saw me using a wire brush and said it was wearing down the precision surfaces. What's your go-to method for keeping those aluminum jaws clean without damaging them?

Yeah, that wire brush is brutal on soft jaws. Just hit them with some brake cleaner and a rag, gets all the gunk off without messing up the surface.

Oh man, the solvent and rag trick is solid, but you gotta watch out for chips getting stuck in the rag. I press a blob of silly putty into the jaws first, pulls out all the little embedded bits like magic. Then I wipe it down with a bit of WD-40 on a paper towel. Leaves them clean and leaves a tiny film that stops new stuff from sticking as bad.
