PSA: I called that "compostable" cup of mine a lie for 2 years, then I actually buried one
I used to roll my eyes at the compostable cups at the cafe near my office in Akron, because they felt like the same plastic as everything else, so I tossed them in the trash out of spite for about 2 years. Then last spring I buried one in my backyard compost bin next to a regular plastic lid, mostly as a dumb experiment to prove myself right. 11 weeks later the cup was gone and the lid was sitting there looking brand new, which was honestly annoying because I hate being wrong. So now I actually put them in the green bin, but I still want to know if that breakdown only works in a hot commercial pile, because my bin barely hits 90 degrees in winter. Has anyone here tested one in a cold home pile and gotten the same result?
