Heat pump vs. gas furnace, my November test changed my mind

I replaced my old gas furnace with a heat pump last spring in Boise, and the real test came when temps dropped to 15 degrees. The electric bill ran $218 for November, but my neighbor with a similar 1,800 square foot house paid $310 in gas and electric combined. The heat pump kept the house at 68 without the dry, stuffy air I used to get. Install cost more upfront, about $2,400 extra, but the monthly savings already covered half of that in just six months. Has anyone else run a side-by-side comparison with a neighbor in a cold climate?
