A neighbor's heat pump comment made me rethink my whole yard

Last month I was trimming my hedges while my neighbor watched from his porch. He yelled over, 'you know that AC unit is eating those plants, right?' I laughed it off, but he explained how the airflow gets blocked and the system runs harder. Sure enough, my electricity bill in Austin jumped $40 that same week. I moved the shrubs back three feet and now I pay closer attention to stuff like that instead of just letting things grow wild. Anyone else get climate-focused advice from a random neighbor that actually helped?

Blocked airflow is no joke. My unit was buried in bushes for years and I never made the link. Moved them back and the bill dropped. Landscaping and HVAC should not fight each other.
