A bus driver's throwaway comment made me rethink my commute

Last week in Austin, I overheard a bus driver tell a rider that the new electric fleet cuts fuel costs by about $2,400 per bus per month, and it just hit me how much my daily solo car trip adds up over a year. I did some rough math on my own 30-mile round trip and realized switching to the express bus twice a week would save me around $85 a month in gas and parking, not to mention the emissions. Has anyone else made a partial commute shift that felt manageable without going full car-free?

Yeah I was just reading about how some cities are using those electric buses as mobile wifi hubs and it made me think about how much idle time we waste in cars, honestly the $85 savings sounds about right, I did the same kind of math for my own trip and it was close to that after I added up oil changes and brake wear.
