PSA: A firefighter in Boise told me he sees a lot of chimney fires from pellet stoves
He said folks forget those need sweeping too, and the buildup is different. How often do you all clean pellet stove vents?

That's a solid reminder. My neighbor had a close call last year with his pellet stove pipe. He swore he cleaned it, but the creosote was like a weird, hard glaze. Ended up with a small chimney fire that scared the hell out of him. Makes you wonder if the cleaning tools need to be different for that kind of buildup. He got it serviced professionally after that and they showed him what he missed.

That weird glaze lee330 mentioned is exactly what I'm worried about. My manual says to clean the vent pipe every ton of pellets, but is that enough to prevent that hard creosote? What did the professionals tell your neighbor to use for scraping that specific buildup off?
