Overheard a guy at the flea market say his grandma never seasoned her cast iron once in 50 years
I caught him explaining to his friend that she just cooked fatty meats and wiped it clean with salt, and now I'm wondering if I've been overthinking my whole seasoning routine with all these flaxseed oil layers, has anyone else tried the just-cook-and-scrub method for years?

My grandma had a cast iron skillet that looked like the surface of the moon - craters and all - and she'd still fry chicken in it and it came out perfect every time. Meanwhile I'm out here doing six coats of flaxseed oil like I'm varnishing a yacht and my eggs still stick. Maybe I should just give up and cook a pound of bacon a day for three years straight, see if that fixes everything.
