Appreciation post: that 1950s skillet I found at a garage sale
Picked up a Griswold #8 last Saturday for 15 bucks at a sale in Decatur. Looked it up later and found out it was made in 1952, same year my dad was born. Thing had a layer of crud so thick I could barely see the logo, but after two rounds of lye bath and a vinegar soak it cleaned right up. Anyone else find older pans that surprise you with how light they are compared to new ones?

Nice find with the Griswold, but I gotta say, I had the opposite experience. Picked up a Wagner from the 50s and it was way heavier than my modern Lodge. Might depend on the specific model or year.

Man, I used to be the same way - thought all old pans were lighter. But ngl, @andrew_sanchez94 that Wagner you mentioned is a good point. My Griswold is weirdly light though, lighter than any modern skillet I've tried.
