Stopped using a regular utility knife for cutting around vents

For years I just used a standard utility knife and tried to freehand the cuts around floor vents. It was messy and I'd often nick the edge of the vent cover. About six months ago, I saw a guy at a job site in Phoenix using a hook blade knife for the same task. I bought a basic one for about $12 and tried it on my next install. The hook lets you follow the vent edge perfectly without slipping, and the cuts are clean every time. Anyone else have a small tool change that saved them a ton of hassle on details?

That hook blade trick is cool. I still just use my regular knife. Got used to the angle and my cuts are fine now.

Remember watching my uncle skin a deer with a regular pocket knife. He said fancy tools just give you more ways to mess up. Stuck with me for some reason.
