Old timer's stretch advice nearly cost me a hallway job in Tulsa

A 30 year installer told me to skip the knee kicker on a 12 foot hallway and just power stretch it. I tried it his way and the backing rippled so bad I had to redo the whole run on a Tuesday. Took me 5 hours extra and a call to the supplier for a replacement roll. Anyone else had a veteran's shortcut backfire like that?

Five hours on a Tuesday is brutal, I'd have been tempted to leave the kicker in the truck and never speak to that guy again. A 30 year vet should know better than to trust power stretching on a 12 footer, that's rookie logic in a seasoned body. Glad you caught it before the customer saw the ripples, but damn, that supplier call had to sting.
