Had a job in a 100 year old house where the floor was a full inch out of level

One side argued we should float the whole thing with leveling compound, the other said to just pad it out and stretch like crazy. We ended up using two bags of Ardex and it came out perfect. What's your go-to method for a floor that's way off?

Ever tried using a self-leveler on a slope that bad?

Oh man, my buddy learned this the hard way. He poured a whole bag of that stuff in his basement, thinking it would just fix a nasty slope. It all ran to one corner like a sad pancake and set up lumpy. He had to chip it all out and start over with a proper base layer first. That stuff is not magic, it needs a fighting chance.
